Mercedes Maidana - El Buey, Chile
Here is some footage of Mercedes Mainana, the first woman to surf El Buey in Chile. It was also her first time towing into waves. A charger, for sure.

Sammy made this board from scratch, using one of our raw blanks which is an undertaking in itself. The entire board is glassed with Kevlar using epoxy which means you can't hit it with the sander - if you do it's ruined. You pretty much only get one chance to nail it but luckily Sammy is a ninja. He made the fins himself, too. If you are in Puerto and see this board this summer say hi to Sammy, he'll be stoked!
From the FCD inbox -
I picked up a BT longboard from you last summer, and it's been a great addition to my surf experiences (it's been all over California with me, and even made it to El Salvador with me last fall). Last weekend, as I was getting changed after my session at the Huntington Beach Pier, I had placed my board on the ground behind my van in the parking lot. Although there were many available parking spots, some guy decided he wanted to park right next to me, and drove right over the nose of my board (in a 3/4 ton Dodge pickup no less).
Dr. Scott Paynton, Mike Conway, Laura Birshan, and Greg Gaiera are doing a bike tour of California this summer. While they'll be taking plenty of surf breaks, their purpose is to raise awaremess of our impact on the ocean and to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Safe Travels!
Belinda Peterson-Baggs, Adam Kobayashi and friends surf Sri Lanka and West Sumatra. More importantly, this video drops some knowledge about the importance of giving back and making the world a little better.

Came across this great video of Liz Clark on YouTube. It has a home-movie kind of feel to it, which is refreshing these days. The video gives you a glimpse of what its like to sail your boat to a remote atoll, find a wave, surf it and then do it all over again. Great music too.

Information about a great event, in honor of a beloved member of the Patagonia family.
Aloha, Rell! Please join us this March 28, 2009 for another special screening of the multi-award winning documentary film on the life of Rell Kapolioka'ehukai Sunn, the Queen of Makaha. You'll laugh, cry and be inspired by her amazing journey. Often referred to as the "Queen of Makaha," Rell was the quintessential water-woman, excelling at all watersports, including surfing, bodysurfing, spearfishing, and open-water outrigger canoeing. In the early 70's, Rell was instrumental in establishing the Women's Professional Surfing Association and founding the women's pro surfing tour in which she twice finished third in the year end rankings. Despite all of her accomplishments, Rell Sunn remained a completely humble and unselfish person, and might easily have been called the "Queen of Aloha" for the spirit she carried with her, and the enthusiasm she devoted to every aspect of her life.

In 1968, Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins set out to surf, ski and climb their way to Patagonia. The wild places they found later motivated them to protect the environment. Inspired by this journey, Jeff Johnson and Woodshed Films set sail on a voyage to South America to climb a mythical peak called Corcovado with Chouindard and Tompkins.
